New Crochet Pattern - The Cake Pop Dress
Updated: Jul 14, 2021
It's been an exciting few months over here at Hygge House! I recently started working with WeCrochet and got my first shipment of yarn support from them. Much to my very pleasant surprise, there was more in the box than I expected! I received some samples of their new Brava Speckle along with coordinating solid colours. When my daughter saw it, we immediately began planning a special project just for her.
This rainbowy speckled colourway is called "Cake Pop" and it screamed to become a children's garment. I love how it coordinates with the bright "Cornflower" solid colourway. This yarn is perfect for kids' pieces as it is durable yet soft, and in a medium weight, works up quickly. I'm sure I'll make more of these little dresses each summer as my little one grows, since they whip up in no time at all. I've graded it in ten sizes from 12 month up to youth 16 (that's up to a 33" / 83 cm chest).
One of my favourite design elements on this piece is the lateral braid at the waistline. I've shared a little video of how it's done over on my Instagram (spoiler alert - it's ridiculously easy). The construction is also incredibly simple. The bodice is worked seamlessly by working the front then picking up again at the neckline for the back, and then joining at the waist to work in the round. It's my favourite kind of mellow project - simple repeating lace on the bodice, then you can work the skirt as long as you like, and once it's done, there's minimal finishing to fuss with. The yarn I used is acrylic, so doesn't even really need blocking.
This pattern is available everywhere you find my patterns on July 15 - but you can get it here right now!
Working with WeCrochet has been such a pleasure! They've made it so fun and easy to participate in the program, without any pressure to design or post any differently than I ordinarily would - it's as simple as adding a couple of hashtags and thoroughly enjoying their products. Have you ever worked with a yarn company? I'd love to hear about your experiences!
